What the buyer pays
On the Free tier, buyers pay a $1.50 + 2% service fee per order — that’s what keeps the tier free for you while covering our infrastructure. On Standard and Pro, the buyer service fee is yours to control: set it as extra revenue, or turn it off entirely. Stripe payment processing (2.9% + $0.30) passes through to the buyer on every tier.

Why this structure
Ticketing platforms traditionally take a cut of every ticket you sell — meaning the better your show does, the more you pay. We think that’s backwards. Houselights charges a flat subscription, so a sold-out room costs you the same as a slow Tuesday. The free tier is the way in: zero commitment to try the product, with economics that still cover the costs. Never charging the promoter a per-ticket fee is the core of how we built this, and it’s not changing.
Frequently asked questions
- Do you take a cut of my ticket sales?
- No. On every tier the per-ticket fee to you is $0. Ticket money is paid into your own Stripe account. Houselights charges the flat subscription shown above and nothing else.
- What does the buyer pay on top of the ticket price?
- Stripe payment processing (2.9% + $0.30 per order) on every tier. On Free, a $1.50 + 2% service fee per order goes to Houselights; that is what keeps the tier free. On Standard and Pro you decide: charge a service fee and keep it, or turn it off.
- When do I get paid?
- Funds sit in your Stripe balance as sales come in and are released after the show ends, following a short hold (default 36 hours, adjustable per show) so refunds can be covered. Your payments settings show what is held and what is available.
- How do refunds work?
- You set the refund policy for each show and it is shown to buyers before they pay. You issue refunds from the orders page; they come out of your Stripe balance. Cancelling a show refunds every order automatically and emails the buyers.
- Can I cancel my subscription?
- Yes, any time from your subscription settings. Shows that already sold tickets stay live until they take place so your buyers are never stranded.
- What is custom subdomain branding?
- On Pro, your public pages live at your-name.houselights.live with your colours and logo and without the "Powered by Houselights" footer. Free and Standard pages carry your brand too, with the footer.
